A Small Bar with a Big Reputation

Bar Santos is one of the most famous tapas bars in Córdoba. It is located next to the Mezquita-Cathedral, in the historic centre of the city. Since opening in 1966, the bar has become a popular stop for both locals and tourists visiting the area.

Although the bar itself is very small, it is always busy and full of people enjoying simple and delicious Spanish food.

The Famous Spanish Tortilla

Bar Santos is especially known for its enormous Spanish tortilla. The tortilla is made with eggs, potatoes and olive oil, and it is served in very thick slices.

Some of these tortillas are prepared using around 30 eggs and several kilograms of potatoes, making them much larger than a normal omelette.

Because the bar is so small, many customers stand outside while eating their slice of tortilla and enjoying the lively atmosphere around the Mezquita.

Today the Alcázar is one of the most visited attractions in Córdoba. Visitors come to explore its towers, ancient walls and beautiful gardens, which offer a peaceful space in the heart of the historic centre.

A Fortress with a Long History

The Alcázar was built in 1328 by King Alfonso XI of Castile on the remains of earlier Roman and Islamic buildings. During the Middle Ages it served as a royal residence for the Catholic Monarchs, Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon.

The fortress played an important role during the Reconquista, when Christian kingdoms were fighting to reclaim territories from Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula.

It is also believed that Christopher Columbus met the Catholic Monarchs here in 1486 while presenting his plan to travel west and reach Asia by sea.
